whenever i curl my hair it doesnt get curly at the roots, theres probably about a 3 inch section where there arent any curls from the roots down, what can i do so that space gets curly along with the rest of my hair?

What I do is take a shower before bed and dry my hair a little, then put it in a ponytail (without brushing it) and it will make little twists in your hair. When you take it down in the morning the root and will be wavy.

You could also try putting curl volumizer in your wet hair (Lo'real makes a very effective one)

You should also get a curling iron that would make the curls the same size as on the top, so it looks natural. If you have to choose between a curling iron thats either bigger or smaller that your natural curls, then go for the bigger size.

A perm is what you get done at the salon where they can either perm your hair so it's straight, or curly. I went through the phase where I wanted it curly, but they said it was too short since their curlers are meant for girls with some length of hair. It should be at least 5 to 6 inches for a perm. In a perm, they put chemicals that make your hair remain the same for months. It can be expensive if you have long hair. I think with the size of yours, the only thing they could do is straighten it with a perm.

use a good, non-drying gel. Try the fantasic ic sparkelites gel. Add a little leave-in conditioner; I recommend garnier fructis leave-in, and that should help it.

also, if you wash your hair with just conditioner, as opposed to shampoo, that kind of keeps it curly and less frizzy.
